ANCHORAGE - Anchorage authorities say one person has died and another was injured in a mobile home fire.

"I heard the sirens about 2 this morning. I came outside, saw flames and smoke," said John Powell. Powell lives next door to the burnt trailer.

The fire occured Friday morning at the Glacier terrace mobile home park on the 4100 block of DeBarr Road.

The Anchorage Fire Department says initial reports indicate that the trailer was almost fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters say the injured person was taken to a local hospital.

Fire Capt. Joe Cizk says the body was found when crews entered the mobile home.

Powell says he has known both residents since 2006. The neighborhood is very friendly, and everyone was a "tight knit" group, according to Powell.

He says he will miss his neighbor.

I said said this before, and I will say it again. All of these old trailers are from at least the 70's and all of them, including the Golden Nugget Trailer Park, are all old, and most are not even liveable. We need to get rid of these old trailers and house these people who are at risk because of "OLD WIRING". I would like to see Code Enforcement go to every trailer that is over 20 years old, and see how many code violations they get. It would save lives, and get these poor children out of harms way of burning down!

This really makes me sick, that we turn our backs on the needy, and watch, and how many trailers are going to burn down because we allow condemned trailers to be lived in. Just go thru a trailer park in East Anchorage and look at all tarps they have on their roofs, the wood over their windows? HOW LONG ARE WE GOING TO IGNORE THE POOR AND THE UGLY SIGHTS? Where is the City looking out for our community!
