APD adds AM patrol to Glenn Highway for traffic violations

by Your Alaska Link News Team

ANCHORAGE-The Anchorage police department is cracking down on speedy drivers.Daily commuters and drivers on the Glenn highway are going to start seeing more red and blue in the early morning hours. Looking to slow down drivers with lead feet APD is adding extra patrols to a 25 mile stretch between 5:30 and 8:30 am.

"What ive noticed is everybody seems to go faster than i do. I pretty much stick to the speed limit but you always see cars whiz past you," said Anchorage driver, Mark Pipkin.

APD did a trial run of the extra patrols last week.In a press release, they say 11 tickets were issued for speeding, five for failure to provide insurance and one driver was arrested for driving on a suspended license.

It's not just the fast and furious officers are going to ticket. They will also patrol for tailgaters, distracted drivers and other traffic violations. One south Anchorage driver says he'd like to see more patrols on the other highway running in and out of Anchorage," I do know once you're on the Seward highway, driving is difficult," said Don Rees.
