Alaska Earthquake Produces Aftershock

Alaska's largest city experienced another earthquake on Tuesday, but it was not nearly as strong as the one that shook the Anchorage area on Monday and knocked items off shelves.

ANCHORAGE - Alaska's largest city experienced another earthquake on Tuesday, but it was not nearly as strong as the one that shook the Anchorage area on Monday and knocked items off shelves.

Tuesday's earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 3.2 and was felt in Anchorage and the community of Eagle River 10 miles to the north.

The Alaska Earthquake Information Center says the quake occurred at 5:35 a.m. and was centered 30 miles west of Anchorage. It was an aftershock to Monday's 5.8-magnitude quake, which also was centered in the same area. That earthquake was felt over a 175-mile swath of Alaska.

Center officials say they expect Monday's earthquake to produce more aftershocks.
