The public turned out in droves for the first of two hearings on the anchorage school district's budget for 2012-2013.
More than 50 people signed up to testify in front of the board in hopes of getting some of the proposed cuts changed.
ASD faces more than $20 million in recommended decreases.
The second hearing is set for February 9th.
Some proposed cuts include about $3 million from summer school programs, around $.6 million from graduation coaches, $1 million in career guides, around $.4 million in elementary librarians and assistants, and almost $3 million in special education services.

I was looking at the cuts and the average pay per person for each of the cuts were about $100K. for only working 9 months that nice pay.. I own my own company and work 65 plus hrs a week for the entire year and my pay isn't that high. The pay and benifits are getting out of control, we as tax payers are getting taxed to death.
