by Your Alaska Link News Team

ANCHORAGE-Cambodian refugees are proud parents of first baby born in 2014 at  Anchorage's Providence Hospital.

Thyda Lor went into labor on New Year's Eve around 9 p.m. "she have difficulty walking and standing up because of the pain, a sign of delivery," said husband Chanra Lor.

The Lor's chose an American first name for their son and a traditional Cambodian middle name meaning "power."

Thyda is an employee at Providence hospital and Chanra is a construction worker in Anchorage.

Richie was expected to be born on January 8. Chanra says he will put all the money he can into savings for Richie's future. He also says he has a few schools picked out for his son's future education, "Yale, Princeton maybe?"

Congrats to the parents!!! Parents are indeed very lucky! My favorite choices for baby names are always “safe”, for example something among these popular baby names for 2014: Karter, Kendrick or King (apparently K- starting baby names will be hot in 2014 as reports). My all time favorite is Adelynn though, sweet and cute, ideal for pretty baby girls! Wish you all the best for 2014 !!! Love, Amanda xx
