The bail for a woman accused of hitting and killing a child with her car has been set for $500,000.
Tragedy struck Park University Elementary in Fairbanks last Tuesday when 11-year-old Jamison Thrun was hit and killed by a vehicle a block from campus. The driver Yiki Kim, 68, ran a stop sign and struck Thrun then drove through a yard. Police say she consumed 7 types of prescription medication that morning and failed sobriety tests. She's been charged for manslaughter and reckless driving.
Thrun's school principal has sympathy for both the driver and victim.
"This is a double tragedy for university park school," said Kyra Aizstrauts, Principal of University Park School. "The driver of the vehicle is also a loved family member in our community."
A memorial was held for Thrun September 2.
