House Democratic Leadership Discusses Proposed Budget CutsThe House Democratic Leadership expressed their views on Governor Parnell's school budget cuts. With Governor Parnell's proposed $1.6 million cuts for Alaska schools for the 2012-2013 school year, Democrat House officials said that he's short sighting the state's education . They pointed out that education was only 6th place on his priority list on his State of the State speech. They said that the budget cuts will ax some of the school system's most important programs and that the state is not doing its best for its youngest generation. "It is unacceptable in the wealthiest state in the nation to be in this situation with education," said House Minority Leader, Beth Kertula. "The governor is flat funding. He is not meeting inflation. He is not looking forward to the future by not being sure that Alaska has a great education system." The caucus is expected to have a press availability with more focus on education later this week.
