Hundred of Pilots Propel to Valdez Fly-In

by Victoria Taylor

VALDEZ- Hundreds of pilots and aviation enthusiast gather for 10th annual Fly-In.

One of the reasons pilots flock to the event is to showcase their aviation skills,“The state of Alaska is just the best practice ground you can get, you know there’s just river and gravel bars all over,” said Pilot John Bush.

The century old tradition in the last frontier has some learning to fly planes before they can drive vehicles,” I’ve been flying my whole life. Started in the front seat at 7, went solo at 16 and got my license on my 17th birthday,” said Jacob Williams of his decade spent navigating the skies.

The Valdez Fly-In signifies the beginning of summer tourism for the community, according to some locals.
