Michael Phelps is the Most Decorated Olympian in History

Michael Phelps is the most decorated olympian in history.

Phelps swam the anchor leg of the winning 4 x 200 freestyle relay. Ryan Lochte, Conor Dwyer, Ricky Berens swam ahead of Phelps.

The medal is his 15th gold, and his record setting 19th career olympic medal. Earlier in the day, Phelps finished a disappointing second in the 200 butterfly.

Outtouched by south african Chad Le Clos after leading the entire race.

With 19 career medals spanning three olympics, Phelps moved one ahead of soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina, who got her haul in 1956, 1960 and 1964.

Phelps now has 15 golds, two silvers and two bronzes.

Also in swimming Tuesday, american Allison Schmitt won the women's 200 freestyle in olympic-record time.
