The Monterrey landing craft is re-floated from Puffin island in Chiniak Bay. The 174-foot vessel struck Discovery Rocks in Chiniak Bay about 2.5 miles south of the city of Kodiak last Friday and it began taking on water.

As the Monterrey was carrying 42,000 gallons of fuel on board and fuel escaped from two tanks. Today (6/15) the vessel was re-floated and is currently docked at the lash dock in Kodiak so crews can unload construction equipment that's on the deck.

The Department of Environmental Conservation says crews will continue to scan the beach and shoreline for any petroleum products. Officials say they're still not sure how much damage was done to the vessel.

"At this point the divers have not been able to get underneath the vessel to determine how much damage has been done," said Major Ann Marie Daneker, a spokesperson with the Army Reserves. "The main concern after dockside was to get the equipment off before the weather moved in this weekend and then the divers will be able to get underneath and get a better assessment to see how much damage has been done to the vessel."

The coast guard is investigating the cause of the collision.
