ANCHORAGE - Anchorage is getting more taxi cabs.

The city's Transportation Commission has approved a plan to add permits for 15 new taxis, including five for handicap-access cabs.

The new permits will increase the total number of taxis by a little less than 9 percent and will nearly double the number of handicap-access taxis.

The commission says a study showed a need for the new cabs. But drivers disagree there's a need, and note that adding permits will reduce the value of the permits they hold. One such permit recently sold for $155,000.
