Wielechowski Proposes Veteran's Tax Credit

Alaska State Senator, Bill Wielechowski is introducing a bill to help veterans get civilian jobs after their service.

The bill will give a $2,000 tax credit to each Alaska veteran hired to work at least 1,568 hours within a year, which is about 30 hours a week.

The June 2011 U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics said that 1 million veterans were unemployed.

The statistics were worse for male vets between ages 18 and 24, with a 21.9% unemployment rate.

"It's the integration," said Wielechowski. "You have people who are serving their country for a long time and are overseas. Just getting back to the job market is hard to do, particularly in this tough recession that we've had the last few years."

For more information on this bill, contact Kendra Kloster in the Senator's office at (907) 269-0120.
