Road closed by avalanche reopened.

A road near Cordova that was closed by an avalanche has been reopened.

The avalanche at about noon Tuesday blocked the Copper River
Highway on Tuesday for more than six hours.

The highway was reopened at 6:30 p.m. The slide at about Mile 5 of the highway has been attributed to warm temperatures and rainfall.

Driver Donald Kurz says he was on his way to the airport with his wife and 2-year-old daughter when they encountered the avalanche. He says he saw a massive wall of snow moving down the
highway into the Eyak (ee-yak) Lake.
