Lion Ark has more action adventure than traditional documentary; this is close up and personal, right in the thick of the action; as close as you get to these animals, understanding them and the effects of circus life.Return to event list.
The Lion Ark story is about Animal Defenders International's two-year undercover investigation of animal circuses in South America, which led to public outrage about animal cruelty and calls for action in Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and others. Bolivia introduced their law first. See the undercover investigations, the lobbying, the law and enforcement of the ban on animal circuses in Bolivia. Circuses that defy the new law are tracked down, animals saved, and a joyous finale sees 25 lions airlifted in our Operation Lion Ark flight, to freedom in Colorado.
In recent weeks Lion Ark has stormed the film festivals – a fantastic world premiere at Raindance Film Festival in London, another sell-out for our US premiere at Mill Valley Film Festival, CA. Hawaii International Film Festival added two extra show dates. At San Diego Film Festival the movie won the Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary. The movie also won Best Documentary at Sun & Sand Film & Music Festival.
Early reviews say: “this film should be a target for this year’s Oscars. Excellent.” (ACED Magazine); “Lion Ark is the feel-good movie of the year!” (Reel Talk); “One of your must-see films of 2013” (The Independent Critic); "A consciousness-raising milestone of a documentary” (The Ecologist); “will restore some faith in humanity." (Shockya.com); "A deeply important film about bravely taking a stand against animal cruelty." (FatFreefilm).
