Copper Center resident Theresa Elaine Barno, 56, died Nov. 20, 2007, at her home at Willow Lake. Theresa was born Oct. 7, 1951, in Pensacola, Fla. She moved to Alaska in 1972, living in Anchorage (1972-1983), Wasilla (1984-1997), and Copper Center (1998 - present). She was employed by the Anchorage School District.
Mrs. Barno was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church in Anchorage, and Holy Family Catholic Church in Glennallen. She was active in church fundraising events. Her hobbies included fishing, hobby crafts, sewing and political action groups.
"She raised three children with an emphasis on the glory of God and service to mankind," her family wrote. "In her dedicated efforts, she successfully homeschooled her children and labored for improvements in the public school system to benefit all. She endured her myriad physical ailments and impairments cheerfully in submission to God's apparent will for the greater good, and 'fought the good fight and ran the race' faithfully to the end of her struggle. Our community is a better place for the time she spent with us."
Theresa is survived by her husband, Edward Barno of Copper Center; daughter, Hannah Lotton; grandsons, Isaac, Jacob, and Elijah Lotton, all of Anchorage; daughter, Miriam Barno of Copper Center; son, Jason Barno of Tampa, Fla.; brother, Kenneth Haley of McGee, Miss.; sister, Loretta Vaughn of Birmingham, Ala.; brother, Gary Walkley of Virginia Beach, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
