Lifelong Alaska resident Victor L. Rock Jr., 32, died Dec. 21, 2007, in Anchorage.
Visitation was held Wednesday at Witzleben's Bragaw Chapel. Additional services will take place in Shageluk this week. Pallbearers will be Ralph Clairmont, Earl Dutchman, Aaron Dutchman, Brian John, Patrick Hamilton and Kevin Workman.
Victor was born June 5, 1975, in Anchorage, and attended Shageluk Innoko River School in Shageluk. He returned to Anchorage in 2002.
Victor worked as a laborer in seasonal jobs.
He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Shageluk.
Victor enjoyed playing basketball, hunting, fishing, camping, summer firefighting with the Shageluk crew and socializing with friends.
His family writes: "Victor will be greatly missed by both family and friends in Shageluk and Anchorage. He was very caring, friendly, and was always very helpful to anyone in need of help. Victor enjoyed taking care of his many nieces and nephews. His father, Victor Sr., says he always took him out hunting and camping in Shageluk. He had many friends in the Anchorage area. We will miss seeing his smiling and friendly face."
Victor is survived by his father, Victor Rock Sr. of Shageluk; brother, Daniel M. Rock of Arizona; sister, Mary Ann John of Shageluk; aunt and uncle, Martina and Bernard John Sr. of Anchorage; uncle, Bernard Rock of Soldotna; aunt and uncle, Shirley and Philip Arrow of Anchorage; aunts, Christine Dutchman, Marsha John, Grace John and Nellie John, all of Shageluk, and Mabel John and Sara John of Anchorage; uncles including Allen John of Anchorage, Eluska John Jr., and Arnold John of Shageluk; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles throughout Alaska.
Victor was preceded in death by his mother, Harriet Rock; grandparents, Daniel Rock and Cleo Fairbanks, and Sarah and Eluska John Sr.; uncles, Billy and Earl John; and cousin, Nicky Rock.
