Homer resident Catherine Isabell Gibbs, 88, died Jan. 22, 2008, in Anchorage at Providence Alaska Medical Central, surrounded by her family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Ms. Gibbs was born Nov. 5, 1919, with twin sister Susan Virginia in Norristown, Pa., to Susan and Fredrick Undercuffler. She married Robert Brown Gibbs on Sept. 26, 1942, and moved to Michigan, where they built a home and raised four children. Catherine was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens as well as playing canasta. Later in life she enjoyed beadwork and painting. Her husband, Robert Gibbs, passed away March 16, 1974. In 1976, she met Herbert Cooper and was with him until his death in 1999.
Catherine then moved to Alaska to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She lived in Kotzebue, Anchorage and Homer, where she made many friends and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her youngest son, Gary, preceded her in death in 1983.
Catherine is survived by three children, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; daughters, Sue Connor of Homer, and Denise Arnold Dilley and her partner, James Runkel, of Anchorage; son, Hollis Gibbs and daughter-in-law Heike of Portland, Ore.; sons-in-law, Robert Dilley III of Anchorage and Brett Connor of Kotzebue; grandsons, Ken Arnold and his wife, Melinda, and their children, Tayona, Kenny Jr. and Devon, all of Anchorage, Kevin Arnold and his daughter, Adriana, both of Anchorage, Robert Dilley III of Anchorage, Wade Connor and his partner, Cherissa Wilson, and their children, Keisha and Skyler, all of Eagle River, Eric and Timo Gibbs of Portland, Marshall Gibbs and partner, Hope, and their son, Chase, all of Belding, Mich.; granddaughters, Ellen Dilley of Caldwell, Idaho, and Taya Connor and partner Mike Florer of Eagle River; and many more friends and extended family.
