Anchorage resident Zack Katelnikoff, 75, died Feb. 9, 2008, at his daughter's home in California.
Zack was born to Polly and John Katelnikoff on March 29, 1932, in Ouzinkie, where he was raised. He graduated from Mt. Edgecumbe High School in Sitka. Zack joined the Navy in 1951 and served during the Korean War until 1955. He returned to Alaska and worked as a commercial fisherman for many years with his brother John and many other relatives. He met and married his sweetheart, Linda, in Seattle. They raised two children, Lisa and Peter.
His family wrote: "Zack enjoyed many outdoor activities with his family such as camping, hiking and fishing. His greatest love was to teach the younger generations fly-fishing and making lures. Zack was a worldwide traveler and free spirit, going wherever the wind and his thumb would take him.
"Zack's devotion to his grandchildren and love of family was the driving force of his life. He inspired all to continue their educations and follow their dreams."
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Katelnikoff and Chris O'Neill of San Diego; son, Peter Katelnikoff of Anchorage; grandchildren, Meaghan, Zachariah and Elise of San Diego; and sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Leroy Richards of Anchorage.
