Kenai resident Clarence "Sonny" West, 52, died May 20, 2007, at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna with friends and family by his side.
Memorial services will be at noon June 3 at the Moose Lodge in Kenai.
Sonny was born March 17, 1955, at Marin General Hospital in Sarnafil, Calif., to Sybil June Small and Keith West. He loved to work construction with his local union laborers. He was always thinking of different ways to construct projects.
His family wrote: "If anyone he knew or met needed help, he was always willing to volunteer and do what he could. Sonny could also be a very quiet man and enjoyed just sitting in his yard soaking up the sun with his wife Candy not far away. That was the good life for him. Sonny could be the life of the party. He made friends everywhere he went. Sonny also enjoyed being close to his family and held each and every one very dear to his heart."
Sonny married his girlfriend of 20 years, Candy Kohniak, on May 19, 2007, at their home in Kenai while surrounded by family members and friends.
Sonny was preceded in death by his brothers, David and Michael; sister, Cheryl Brumlow; father, Keith West; and grandparents, George and Wallace Shulte.
