Eagle River resident Steven Francis Coates, 40, died May 26, 2007, at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
A celebration of life will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 16300 Domain Lane in Eagle River. After the service, a gathering with refreshments will be at Conwell Hall in the old Catholic church on Artillery Road.
Steven was born Jan. 28, 1967, in Eagle River to Ray and Doreen Coates. He graduated from Chugiak High School in 1985. He married Stacy Letourneau on Aug. 19, 1995, in Eagle River.
Steve loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, snowmachining, riding ATVs and collecting firearms. He was a yearly volunteer for the Iditarod Sled Dog Race as a trail breaker. At the time of his death, he and Stacy were working toward their lifelong goal of building a house in Houston.
His family wrote: "He was loved by his parents, brother and sister and adored by his mothers- and fathers-in-law, his nieces and nephews, who will always remember the ever-present twinkle in his eye and his sense of humor. He is most remembered for the 12 years of love and companionship he gave to his wife, Stacy."
He is survived by his beloved wife, Stacy Coates; parents, Ray and Doreen; brother, Rick Coates and friend Cindy Steen; sister and brother-in-law, Vicki and Jim Carnahan, and their children, Jamie and Kurtis; uncle, Charlie; and aunts, Shirley and Betty Richardson; mothers- and fathers-in-law, Richard and Phyllis Letourneau and Tom and Sharon Hume; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Steve Letourneau and friend Pam Imig, Mark and Sharon Larose, Bill and Sarah Dickson and Jennifer Dickson; nieces- and nephews-in-law, Steven Jr., Mary Claire, Nicholas, Jaqueline and Gabrielle Letourneau, Chase, Lauren a
