Mekoryuk resident Harry Mike, 78, died May 23, 2007, at Alaska Native Medical Center.
A visitation will be at 10:30 a.m., with a service at noon Thursday at First Covenant Church. His friend, Pastor Nathan Toots, will officiate. Burial will be at Fort Richardson National Cemetery at 3 p.m. Pallbearers will include Howard Amos, Rolland Amos, Tony Amos, Oscar Amos, Noah Jones and Bryon Amos.
Mr. Mike was born May 15, 1929, in Mekoryuk to Ayaksar Mike and Elluwagar Jones. He graduated from high school.
He joined the U.S. Air Force on June 25, 1947, at McChord Air Force Base in Washington. He retired on January 31, 1968, after being stationed in Japan, Washington, Iceland, Thailand, Vietnam, Greenland and many other locations around the world. Mr. Mike served 20 years, six months and five days in the Air Force.
He was a member of the Mekoryuk Covenant Church.
He encouraged people and he loved his family. He was a master ivory carver.
He is survived by his sisters, Alice Smith and Bertha Andrew of Mekoryuk, and Hannah Morris of Texas; brother, Noah Jones of Mekoryuk; nephews, Howard, Tony, Rolland, Oscar and Raymond Amos, Ralph, Steven and Simeon Andrew and Dale Smith Jr. of Mekoryuk, Bryon Amos of Anchorage, Clyde and Clifton Smith of Bethel; and nieces, Elizabeth Spud, Fannie DeGrote, Frieda Seebold and Viola Smith of Anchorage, Cecelia Woodard of Mississippi, Barbara Andrew of Kwethluk, Sally Whitman, Peggy Williams and Harriet Shavings of Mekoryuk, and Harrilyn Hickert of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; nieces, Christina and Stella Amos; nephew, Rolland Amos; and sister, Nona Amos.
