William Henry "Bill" Bleakley
William "Bill" Henry Bleakley, 78, died July 31, 2007, of multiple myeloma cancer at Chiangmai Ram II Hospital in Chiangmai, Thailand.
A funeral was Aug. 3 in Chiangmai, Thailand, at the First Church of Chiangmai. His ashes will be buried at St. Thomas Church in County Longford, Ireland, at a later date.
Mr. Bleakley was born March 3, 1929, in Smear, County Longford, Ireland. He joined the Royal Air Force at age 18. He moved to the United States in the mid-1950s.
Mr. Bleakley came to Anchorage in 1963 with his wife, Olga, and his two young children, Caroline and Norman. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier and retired in the early 1980s.
In addition to being an avid reader, Mr. Bleakley loved gardening and the Alaska wilderness, and built a log cabin near Talkeetna along the Susitna River. He enjoyed spending the summer months there. He also traveled extensively around the world, including to Thailand, where he eventually settled and married Porntip. They had a daughter, Anna.
William was a loving father and will be greatly missed.
Mr. Bleakley is survived by his wife Porntip; his daughter, Caroline and son-in-law Michael of Las Vegas; his son, Norman and daughter-in-law Letitia, of Dallas, Ga.; and his daughter, Anna of Chiangmai, Thailand; his grandchildren, Kate and William of Las Vegas, and Bradley Conner of Dallas, Ga.; his sister, Muriel Ahern of Ireland; his brothers, Bertie and Cecil of Ireland, John of Georgia and Fred of Chicago.
