Leslie F. Fetrow, 88, died Aug. 4, 2007, of natural causes at his home in Chugiak.
A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chugiak United Methodist Church. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in Palmer.
Mr. Fetrow was born March 28, 1919, near Kensington, Kan., to Leslie R. and Letha Fetrow. He served with the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II, achieving the rank of chief pharmacist's mate. He married Dorothy Fish on Dec. 9, 1945.
Mr. Fetrow arrived in Alaska in 1939, serving with the Civilian Conservation Corps on Annette Island. He and his wife returned to Alaska in 1946. He worked as a civil servant with the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1977 and later worked for several years as a supply manager with the Chugiak Senior Center.
Mr. Fetrow enjoyed fishing, woodworking and attending operas and theater productions.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Leslie L. and John; daughters, Sandra, Karla, Mary and Ada; and his sister, Leota
Mr. Fetrow was preceded in death by two sisters and his grandson, Jason.
