Lifelong Alaskan Joel Edwin Gregorio, 31, died Aug. 12, 2007, in Old Harbor.
A service will be at 9:30 a.m. today at Evergreen Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Gale Van Diest will officiate. A funeral will be later in Togiak. Pallbearers will be John Gregorio, Jared Gregorio, Jeff Gregorio, Brian Peterson, Marty Peterson and Jeff Simeonoff. Burial will take place in Togiak.
Joel was born June 26, 1976, in Palmer. He graduated from Togiak High School in 1994 and worked as a commercial fisherman.
He enjoyed basketball, wrestling, mixing music and playing drums, skateboarding, snowboarding, ivory carving and Styrofoam boats.
"Joel spread sunshine and laughter wherever he showed up," his family wrote. "As a child, he was the live wire and instigator of what children get into with three brothers, one sister and numerous cousins and friends.
"In high school, he was involved in many activities and made many friends. There he also met his sweetheart, Mercedes.
"As a lifelong fisherman, he dreamed of running his own boat.
"Joel was an excellent father to Isaiah, who was so proud to call him 'Dad.'
"Joel will be missed by many family members and friends. We look forward to seeing him in heaven."
Joel is survived by his father, Tony, and wife Rhonda Gregorio of Anchorage; mother, Helen Gregorio of Togiak; brothers, Jon and wife Angela, and Jared and Jeff Gregorio, all of Anchorage; sister, Antoinette Gregorio of Togiak; sister, Brittany Gregorio and companion Jeff Simeonoff of Anchorage; stepbrothers and spouses, Brian and Jessica Peterson of Anchorage and Marty and Christine Peterson of California; stepsister, Isiah Musio Yanez of Togiak; girlfriend, Mercedes Yanez of Togiak; grandparents, Dan Sr. and Emma Nanalook of Togiak; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
