Anchorage resident Terry Forrest Huffman, 60, died Aug. 20, 2007, at Providence Extended Care, after a six-month battle with lung and bone cancer.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary, 11621 Old Seward Highway. A celebration of his life will be after the service at The Carousel Lounge, 3206 Spenard Road.
Terry was born May 15, 1947, in Fairmont, W.Va., to Robert and Doris (Roop) Huffman. Terry moved to Alaska in 1968 with his parents and two brothers, after the Army stationed his father at Fort Richardson. Terry worked for Spenard Auto Supply as an auto parts salesman, until the business was closed. He most recently worked for High Performance Auto Supply until February, when his illness made it difficult for him to continue working.
His family wrote: "Terry loved auto racing, fishing and was an avid sports enthusiast. He loved to watch football and basketball, and stood behind his beloved Dallas Cowboys through good years and bad. He was an honest, hard-working man with a dry sense of humor and a quick wit about him. Terry would do anything he could to help a friend or family member in need, but was especially doting of his two daughters. His loss will be greatly felt by all who knew him, but his memory will live on forever in the hearts and minds of all his friends and family."
Terry is survived by his two daughters, Cory Abbott of Anchorage and Tarra Dotzauer of Arlington, Wash.; his girlfriend, Terrie Sollenberger of Anchorage; brothers and sister-in-law, Randy and Kelly Huffman of Anchorage, and Greg Huffman of Kansas; grandchildren, Megan, Cierra, Michaela and Chase of Anchorage, and Morgan and Maddox Dotzauer of Arlington; aunts and uncle, Harriet Toothman, Helen Reese and Lonnie Huffman, all of West Virginia; nephews and niece, Chad and Travis Huffman, Clint Seegers and Shannon Seegers; other family members; and many friends.
Terry was preceded in death by his father, Robert F Huffman, and his mother, Doris W. (Roop) Huffman.
