Daniel Ling Sr.
Former Anchorage resident Daniel Ling Sr., 80, died Aug. 28, 2007, in Silsbee, Texas.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Buna Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, between Buna and Kirbyville, 26946 Highway 96 South.
Daniel Ling Sr. was born Oct. 14, 1926, to Cynthia Ling in Jasper, Texas.
Daniel and his wife, Rosemary, along with their six children, traveled to Alaska from Texas in 1966.
Daniel was a contractor and homebuilder, constructing homes both for himself and others in Alaska and Texas. While in Alaska he had the opportunity to work for HUD building homes for Native Alaskans in Wainwright, just west of Prudhoe Bay, and he constructed the first-ever townhomes built in the state. He left Alaska in the mid-1980s.
Daniel was baptized and ordained as a minister of Jehovah's Witnesses on Aug. 21, 1961. He has served faithfully as a ministerial servant and elder in a number of congregations around the U.S., including Alaska, North Dakota, Washington, Louisiana and his home state of Texas. In Texas he served with the Jasper, Silsbee and most recently Buna congregations and was still very active in the door-to-door ministry, and participating in congregation meetings until early August of this year. He was respected and loved by the Buna congregation and those he has served over the years. We are confident that he is tucked away safely in God's memory and looking forward to the time when he hears the voice of Jesus on the day of resurrection, and comes forward with many other faithful servants of Jehovah.
The family would like to gratefully thank Dr. Zafar and his nursing staff, and the Lakes Area Hospice, for their help and assistance during the past few months.
Daniel is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Rosemary (Nelson) Ling Sr.; his children, Alice Quigly of Escondido, Calif., Daniel Ling Jr. of Silsbee, Melissa Johnson of Bullhead City, Ariz., David Ling of Seattle and Rosemary Keim of Silsbee; brother and sister, Wallace Ling and Mayme Kitchens; grandchildren including Robin, Steven, Dawn, Tina, Angela, Andrea, Brittney, Tristan, Aaron Ling and Candace Keim; and numerous great grandchildren.
Daniel was preceded in death by his daughter, Vanoy Carpenter; his sister, Lily Barron; and his brother, James Walter Ling.
