Luise Marie Nielsen Brabaw
Juneau resident Luise Marie Nielsen Brabaw died Jan. 1, 2008. She was 85.
Born Feb. 5, 1922, in Juneau, she was raised the fourth of nine children of Jens and Marie Nielsen. She spent almost all of her life in Juneau. She graduated from Juneau High School and worked first for the Territory of Alaska in the auditor's office. Later, she worked for the Alaska Department of Labor, matching job seekers with employers. After 43 years of service, she retired in 1987 and enjoyed traveling with her sisters.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, George Brabaw, and by siblings Albert Schramen, Elsie Schramen Cress, Edward Nielsen and Christine Nielsen Addelman and by her baby brother, George Nielsen.
She is survived by her son, David Brabaw, of Juneau; daughter, Georgene Brabaw Nielsen, of Fairbanks; sisters, Emma Nielsen Houston and Anna Nielsen Kane, of California; brother, Jim Nielsen, of Juneau; sister-in-law, Marie Anderson Nielsen, of Washington; nieces, Heather Houston Drapeaux, Christine "Tina" Kane, of Washington, and Carla Anecito, of California; nephews, Ronald Nielsen, Edward Nielsen Jr. and Patrick Kane; grandniece, Jeannie Drapeaux; and grandnephew, Kyle Drapeaux.
A viewing will be held at 1 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. celebration of her life on Saturday, Jan. 5, at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 740 W. 10th St. A reception will follow at the Parkshore Condominiums clubhouse at 800 F St.
Pallbearers will be her grandson, Luke Nielsen; son-in-law, Mark Nielsen; nephew-in-law, Roger Drapeaux; and nephews, Jens Nielsen, George Houston and Jay Houston
