Anchorage School District Budget HearingSuperintendent Carol Comeau says the district has received the most upset over the cuts to elementary libraries and special education staffing.
The public turned out in droves for the first of two hearings on the anchorage school district's budget for 2012-2013.
More than 50 people signed up to testify in front of the board in hopes of getting some of the proposed cuts changed. ASD faces more than $20 million in recommended decreases. The second hearing is set for February 9th. Some proposed cuts include about $3 million from summer school programs, around $.6 million from graduation coaches, $1 million in career guides, around $.4 million in elementary librarians and assistants, and almost $3 million in special education services.
