JUNEAU- An Anchorage Democrat plans to introduce legislation that she says would increase per-pupil funding by about $400 over the current level and allow for it to be adjusted for inflation.

Sen. Berta Gardner told reporters she appreciated Gov. Sean Parnell addressing the base-student allocation in an omnibus education bill he introduced last week. But she said the amount he proposed was "measly."
Parnell proposed an increase of about $200 over current levels over three years. Critics say that falls far short of what a number of districts need to stave off cuts.
Parnell has said he is willing to raise per-pupil funding if legislators work with him in passing "real education reform." Parnell defined that as providing more opportunity for kids and more parental choice in options for kids.
