House Finance tweaks school funding formula

The House Finance Committee has tweaked Gov. Sean Parnell's omnibus education bill, freeing up about $13 million for school districts.

The change in House Bill 278 comes in how the state counts students.

Co-chairman Bill Stoltze, a Chugiak Republican, says the committee also set time limits in the charter school appeal process. It does not, however, touch on the issue of the state board of education running charter schools turned down by local districts.

The bill remains in committee.
