FAIRBANKS, AK – Doc DelCastillo, the head coach of the Alaska Nanooks hockey team, announced his resignation today.

“I enjoyed my year here at UAF working with our extremely talented student athletes and getting to know members of the great hockey community here in Fairbanks,” said DelCastillo. “However, after talking it over with my wife, our family has decided to pursue other opportunities.”

“I’ve appreciated the energy that Doc brought to the program,” said athletic director Forrest Karr. “We wish him and his family the very best.”

Karr said that assistant coach Dallas Ferguson will serve as interim head coach until a permanent head coach is selected.

“We’re looking at our different options for finding and hiring a permanent coach,” said Karr.

“We’ve got a great group of student-athletes returning next year and as we look ahead to bringing a new permanent head coach on board, we are all focused on an exciting future for the program,” said Karr.
