A bout of unusual persistent heavy rain throughout the interior of Alaska has prompted flood warnings and watches in the Tanana Valley. Reporting the silver lining, the National Weather Service station in Fairbanks has indicated that the rainstorms are heading toward the Gulf of Alaska.

2.25 inches of rain fell on Delta Junction, much of which accumulated Monday afternoon. Neighboring towns reported similar levels of precipitation.

Flood warnings have been issued by the National Weather Service. Covered by these warnings are the tributaries of the Tanana River from Healy Lake to Harding Lake. A flood watch has been issued for the Salcha River.

Tributaries of the Yukon River in the upper Tanana Valley and 40-Mile country are also under flood watch.
