A shocker today from the Attorney General's office... as the feds are now blaming the prosecution for withholding evidence during the Pete Kott and Vic Kohring trials, and are asking for their immediate release.
The surprise announcement came from the Department of Justice this morning, that the federal government had been looking into misconduct in those cases since the Ted Stevens investigation wrapped up. The same prosecutors worked on all 3 cases.

Now, AG Eric Holder is is asking that the cases of former Republican representatives Vic Kohring' and Pete Kott be sent back to the trial judge, and that the two men be released from prison. Kott is being held in Oregon, while Kohring has been in California.

ABC Alaska News spoke to the families of both men today. Kohring's parents told us they're excited and optimistic that Vctor will be released. They last spoke to him about a month ago. Kott's son told ABC Alaska News his appeal of the case was based on alleged misconduct... and today's announcement confirms that. For more, join ABC Alaska News at 5, 6 and 10.
