FAIRBANKS- The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority has picked a global infrastructure development company as its top choice to build a North Slope liquefied natural gas plant that could provide gas to interior Alaska customers.

The authority Tuesday picked MWH Americas Inc. as its preferred contractor.
The authority will negotiate with MWH Americas over terms of a contract to build and operate a plant that could liquefy gas for transport by truck to Fairbanks.
The authority considered two other proposals. MWH Americas offered more cash and debt.
Natural gas is projected to cut home heating costs by half in Fairbanks and address the area's air quality issues that are exacerbated by wood stove particulate.
