As winter appears on the horizon and snow begins to fall across the Last Frontier the blowing sands of the Kuwaiti desert continue to challenge some of its army aviators.

Since April, Alpha Company, 1 Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment, Alaska Army National Guard, has been deployed with the 36th Combat Aviation Brigade to the middle east in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Their mission is to provide security to the region and build partnerships with countries that will further long-term stability in and around the Arabian Gulf.

Capt. Cornilles, an Alaska Soldier at Camp Buehring, says that he can’t wait to take the skills he’s learned home to Alaska.

“I just want to thank our families for all the support that they've given us while we've been over here,” said Capt. Cornilles. “Every single soldier has benefited from that consistent contact with their families and the support and without them this wouldn't be possible".

These soldiers were overseas as part of operation freedom, which of course thousands of Alaskan-based soldiers have also been a part of.
