ANCHORAGE- Anchorage would spend less money next year under a budget proposed by Mayor Dan Sullivan.

Sullivan is proposing a city budget of just under $471 million for 2014. That's $4.5 million less than this year.

The budget would give property taxpayers a slight break - a decrease of $9 for the owner of a $300,000 home. However, the budget calls for higher fees for ambulance and bus service.

Sullivan proposes a $300 hike in fees for ambulances to $700 or $850, depending on the service.

He proposes increasing bus fares from $1.75 to $2 for an adult. Senior citizens would pay $1, up from 50 cents.

Monthly passes for adults would rise from $55 to $60. Youth passes would increase from $25 to $30.
