JUNEAU- U.S. Sen. Mark Begich says he's "deeply concerned" by allegations that Syrian President Bashar Assad's government carried out a chemical weapons attack.
Begich, in a statement, says any response "must be a unified, international approach that is carefully tailored to terminate use of chemical weapons."
He says while he recognizes President Barack Obama is commander-in-chief, Congress must be consulted on any potential actions.
The Democrat says he doesn't want to see American troops on the ground in Syria. He says the U.S. must be clear about the objectives, strategy and anticipated costs to ensure Americans will not be put in harm's way.
