FAIRBANKS- The Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center in Fairbanks could be in line for an unexpected influx of money.
A federal appropriations bill includes $66 million for six new Alaska health centers.
The Chief Andrew Isaac Center would receive $20.1 million in additional federal funding this year for staffing and operations. U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski says the money could pay for 172 new jobs in Fairbanks
The center opened in March.
Native health centers in Barrow, southcentral Alaska, Norton Sound, the Copper River area and the Kenai Peninsula would receive between $3.5 million and $12.5 million in the appropriations bill.
The U.S. House approved the bill Wednesday. It is expected to be passed by the Senate and signed by the president.
