Delegation Continues Work, Differs on Pay
Members of Alaska's congressional delegation have continued to work during the partial federal government shutdown but differ on whether they should be paid.
JUNEAU- Members of Alaska's congressional delegation have continued to work during the partial federal government shutdown but differ on whether they should be paid.
A spokesman for Sen. Lisa Murkowski says Murkowski is suspending her pay during the shutdown and believes she should receive the same treatment as staff members who are working.
A spokeswoman for Sen. Mark Begich says he plans to donate his pay during the shutdown to charity. Spokeswoman Rachel Barinbaum says he's also supporting legislation that would prevent members of Congress from being paid during a shutdown.
Rep. Don Young plans to continue collecting his pay. Young spokesman, Michael Anderson, says Young believes all federal workers should be paid and has signed onto legislation that would ensure federal employees furloughed during the shutdown would receive retroactive pay.
