Donations Allow Juneau Clinic to Remain Open
Thanks to $100,000 in donations in just the last week, a medical clinic for homeless and low-income residents in Juneau has been given a reprieve.
JUNEAU- Thanks to $100,000 in donations in just the last week, a medical clinic for homeless and low-income residents in Juneau has been given a reprieve.
The Front Street Clinic will now be able to stay open until at least April 30.
Budgetary problems recently prompted the Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium to announce the clinic would close Oct. 1.
Now the consortium will use a $90,000 federal grant and the donations to keep the clinic open, at least through next spring.
The Juneau Coalition on Housing and Homelessness was behind the fundraising effort. They still need to raise another $46,000.
The ultimate goal is to turn the clinic into a community public health center.
