JUNEAU- The administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is scheduled to be in Alaska this week, where she plans to address issues involving climate change, air quality and a proposed mine near the headwaters of a world premier salmon fishery.
Gina McCarthy is making her first trip to Alaska in the post.
Monday's itinerary includes a planned stop at the Portage Glacier in south-central Alaska to survey the impacts of climate change in the region. The U.S. Forest Service says the glacier has been shrinking over the last century.
McCarthy also plans this week to visit Fairbanks, to discuss air quality issues, and the Bristol Bay region, to meet with individuals on the proposed Pebble Mine.
