FAIRBANKS- An evacuation watch has been issued for people living along a 16-mile stretch of Chena Hot Springs Road near Fairbanks because of a growing wildfire.

The Alaska Interagency Coordination Center issued the watch for those living from Mile 14 to Mile 30 of Chena Hot Springs Road.

A watch indicates that homeowners may have to evacuate. Officials say those with special needs or who might have to evacuate livestock or sled dogs may want to consider leaving before an evacuation order is issued.

The fire burning on Eielson Air Force base has grown to 70 square miles. Smoke jumpers, retardant tankers and water-scooping aircraft, along with military equipment, is being used to fight the Stuart Creek wildfire.
