FAIRBANKS- Interior Alaska is digging out of snow that made skiers happy but closed one highway.

The state Department of Transportation closed the Steese Highway from Mile 101 to Mile 116,  the area of Eagle Summit.
The department says the pass was impassible and gates were lowered to prevent people from entering.
The National Weather Service says about 9 inches of snow had accumulated in Fairbanks foothills by Sunday afternoon and most had fallen by Saturday night.
The agency recorded 6.6 inches at College Station in Fairbanks.
