Juneau's Cope Park to See Improvements
A revised master plan for a downtown Juneau park calls for a fenced-in dog park, better winter facilities and an improved trail.
JUNEAU- A revised master plan for a downtown Juneau park calls for a fenced-in dog park, better winter facilities and an improved trail.
The municipal engineering department on Tuesday unveiled proposals for Cope Park, located down a hill from the Governor's House along Gold Creek.
The city has about $500,000 for park improvement from a tax increase.
Project manager Skye Stekoll says park users listed walking as a high priority for the park. Another priority is police presence and lighting so that users feel safe at night.
The first phase of improvements, to be done this year, call for demolishing the old shelter and restrooms, improving drainage and rebuilding failing walls.
