KODIAK - Kodiak residents will likely see their garbage rates rise to pay for the expansion at the landfill.

The borough assembly will consider the rate hike at its meeting Thursday.

The borough needs to increase its per ton fee by $20 to balance its expense budget.

For the average homeowner using a 64-gallon roll cart, that translates to about a 7 percent increase - or over $2 more a month.

Alaska Waste says rates will also increase for commercial users.
