FAIRBANKS- A 45-year-old Anchorage man has been charged with three counts of felony theft after making four trips to a Fairbanks emergency room within a week to get pain medications under two different names.

John Paul Boyce was charged after racking up nearly $10,000 in bills at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.
His public defender didn't immediately return a call seeking comment Thursday to The Associated Press.
Officials say he went to the hospital under an assumed name to get three different pain medicines. During his fourth visit Sunday, he used his real name but had a doctor who recognized him from an earlier visit.
Police say Boyce acknowledged being addicted to pain pills, and added he wasn't trying to get anyone in trouble.
