ANCHORAGE- A 19-year-old Nunam Iqua (NOO'-nam IK'-wa) man is charged in a house fire that killed three people, including a child, in the Southwest Alaska village.
A Bethel grand jury returned a 17 count indictment against Derek Adams Thursday, charging him with six counts of second-degree murder, 10 counts of assault and one count of arson in connection with the June 28 fire.
Alaska State Troopers say the fire killed 8-year-old Cyprian Ignatius, 43-year-old Joseph Ignatius and 25-year-old Edward Murphy.
Prosecutors and troopers say they cannot discuss motive.
Adams is in custody in Bethel, with bail set at $500,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
Bethel District Attorney June Stein says twice the murder counts were filed to cover two theories: extreme different indifference and felony murder.
