ANCHORAGE- A 29-year-old Seward man suspected of sideswiping a bus carrying a high school football team has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
Alaska State Troopers say Brandon Mason was arrested Saturday.
The Seward Seahawks at about 11 p.m. were headed home after a game at Voznesenka near Homer.
Troopers say Mason was driving north on the Seward Highway and that his pickup crossed the centerline and nearly collided head-on with another vehicle. Troopers say the pickup continued and struck the football team bus at Mile 6.
Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters reports that Mason fled but was detained by witnesses at a nearby home.
He was charged with DUI, leaving an accident and reckless endangerment.
He was not in custody Tuesday.
