ANCHORAGE- A 73-year-old Anchorage man charged with second-degree murder in a weekend shooting death denies firing a gun.

Johnie Jones is charged with killing 36-year-old Sean Mulgrew, who was found bleeding Sunday in an alley near Jones' apartment.

Police say the shooting was related to illegal drugs.

Defense attorney Rex Butler tells the Anchorage Daily News that the case is about a senior citizen attacked in his own home.

Jones told police he opened at his door and saw a stranger pointing a flare gun at him. He told police he fought with the man but didn't shoot him.

Police found a bucket in a common laundry room that contained two handguns, heroin and a white crystal substance.

Police say they found shell casings and a handgun case in Jones' apartment.
