Mat-Su Borough Rejects $2M Offer for Idled Ferry
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough has rejected a $2 million offer for its idled ferry.
ANCHORAGE- The Matanuska-Susitna Borough has rejected a $2 million offer for its idled ferry.
An Abu Dhabi shipping company made the offer.
Borough manager John Moosey says the borough now will only accept an offer that covers the amount the borough must reimburse the federal government - $6 million.
The ferry is a Navy prototype passed to the borough on the condition that the borough use it to move passengers between Port MacKenzie and Anchorage.
The borough subsequently concluded it could not afford to operate the ferry.
The ferry has been docked outside Ketchikan and has cost $1.3 million for crew fees and other expenses.
Moosey says the borough has received no higher bids.
